The Department of Psychology and Pedagogy (until 2015 – the Department of Psychological and Pedagogical Disciplines) was established in 1999. Provides training for three levels of higher education: Bachelor of Psychology, Master of Psychology, PhD of Philosophy.

In 2012, it was established a specialized scientific council D 48.125.03 for PhD program, 19.00.07 Pedagogical and Age psychology (since 2016 – 053 Psychology).

Since 2015, was established the Research Center “Institute of Practical Psychology and Psychotherapy”. Its aim was to train and improve the skills of psychologists-practitioners who can help in solving various psychological problems, as well as conducting research to study the essential aspects of psychological and psychotherapeutic care of the individual. The head of the center is Maria Shugai, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy.

Members of the department annually hold international and national conferences “Current Issues of Cognitive Psychology”. There is also a methodological seminar, during which teachers and graduates discuss current issues of psychological research.

The Department regularly publishes Scientific Proceedings of Ostroh Academy National University: Philology Series, a periodical research journal (published in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine from 28.12.2019).

The Department of Psychology and Pedagogy cooperates with the Warsaw University of Natural Sciences SGGW (Poland), Stockholm University (Sweden), The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (Poland), University of Zielona Góra (Poland), the University of Bologna (Italy), Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Kyiv Gestalt University, Ukrainian Catholic University.

There are several workshops, laboratories, and studios at the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy:

• Scientific workshop “Professional scenarios of successful teachers” (Head – Yuriy Plyska, Doctor of Psychology, Professor).
• Scientific workshop “In the Mirror of the Word” (Head – Zoya Stoliar, PhD, Senior Lecturer).
