General information about the Prof. M. Kovalsky Department of History

The founder and the first head of the department was Mykola P. Kovalsky (1929-2006), Doctor of History, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Academician of the International Slavic Academy of Sciences, Full Member of the Ukrainian Free Academy of Sciences in the USA. Thanks to his organizational measures the permanent staff was assembled. In its current form, the Department of History was established as a basic department in the History subject area on December 9, 1996 by the decision of the Academic Council. From the beginning, it was headed by a PhD in History, Associate Professor Viktor B. Atamanenko, since April 2000 – by Doctor of History, Professor Volodymyr V. Trofimovych, and since September 2020 – by PhD in History, Associate Professor Mykola B. Blyzniak.

The Department of History trains bachelors and masters in the specialty 032 History and Archaeology of the subject area 03 Humanities. Specialists are trained on a full-time and part-time basis.

The Department of History has a master's degree, full-time and part-time postgraduate and doctoral studies (specialty 032 History and Archaeology).

The Department annually publishes the scientific journal Scientific Notes of Ostroh Academy National University, “Historical Sciences” Series, which is included in the list of professional journals on historical sciences (the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated September 24, 2020 № 1188 (Category “B”). The journal corresponds to the specialty 032 History and Archaeology and is included in the international scientometric database Slavic Humanities Index (http://slavus.ca/en/ukraine.html#toptext).

The Volyn History Research Center operates at the department.

The research work of the staff of the Department of History is carried out within the framework of the state theme registered in Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information (state registration number – 0121U108030).
