ML Week — A Practical Educational Intensive Dedicated to Machine Learning and Applied Projects

January 29, 2026

From January 26 to 30, 2026, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted ML Week, a practical educational hackathon dedicated to machine learning and applied projects.

The event was held at the National University of Ostroh Academy in partnership with leading technical universities in Ukraine, including:

  • National Technical University of Ukraine "Ihor Sikorskyi Kyiv Polytechnic Institute";
  • National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute";
  • Lviv Polytechnic National University;
  • Dnipro University of Technology;
  • Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

As part of ML Week, participants from across Ukraine formed teams and worked on real-world cases proposed by the event's partners. Throughout the week, they received mentoring support, participated in practical classes and workshops, analysed tasks, searched for solutions, and prepared final presentations of their projects.

During his welcoming address to the participants, Dmytro Shevchuk emphasised the practical dimension of the event and its importance for developing professional skills:

"ML Week is a space for learning through action. It is important for students participating in this project to understand algorithmic logic, formulate data queries correctly, work in a team, and take responsibility for the results. Such experience prepares them for real challenges in the IT environment."

The ML Week format is practice-oriented and focuses on teamwork, working with data, applying machine learning tools, and publicly presenting results to experts and lecturers.

As noted by Oleksandr Novoseletskyi, Director of the Institute of IT and Business NaUOA:

"ML Week is considered an intensive educational environment where students work with real applied tasks and modern machine learning tools. This format allows them to understand better the logic of working with data, go through the full project cycle — from defining the task to presenting the results — and experience responsibility for a team-based solution."

He also emphasised that for the Institute of IT and Business, it is important to create an environment where learning is combined with practice, and where students interact with mentors, lecturers, and the event's partners. According to Oleksandr Novoseletskyi, such a format helps develop professional thinking, communication skills, and readiness to work on complex interdisciplinary tasks.

The final stage of ML Week included presentations of the team projects, a summary of the results, and a discussion of the outcomes, with participation from experts and lecturers.
