On April 28 - May 2, the National University of Ostroh Academy organised the 'Quality Days of the NaUOA', where topical issues of ensuring the quality of education, academic integrity, etc. were discussed.
On April 28, a training for guarantors of educational programmes on 'Accreditation of educational programmes: experience of the academic year 2024-2025' was held. Among the speakers were the Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching, Doctor of Science (Philosophy), Full Professor Dmytro Shevchuk and the Head of the Research Department, Doctor of Science (Economics), Full Professor Olha Kryvytska.
"The seminar aimed to discuss the main stages of preparation and accreditation with the guarantors of educational programmes and heads of departments. It is essential to develop educational programmes, considering the trends in developing the quality assurance system and the experience of accreditations that took place during this academic year. At the same time, the seminar was a good opportunity to consider current issues of accreditation processes,"
On April 29, Bohdan Novak, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists and a lecturer at the Department of National Security and Political Science, gave a lecture entitled 'The Role of the Council of Young Scientists in Shaping the Scientific Culture of the National University of Ostroh Academy'.
The Council of Young Scientists is a collegial advisory body that unites young scientists of the NaUOA to protect their rights and interests, promote scientific, innovative, and other creative activities, and encourage the inter-university integration of young scientists.
In addition, the speaker focused on the definition of young scientists, the activities and role of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science, and current grants and competitions.
Also, on this day, Yurii Kleban, Senior Lecturer at the Information Technology and Data Analytics Department, a specialist practitioner, gave a lecture for lecturers on 'Modern AI Tools and the Possibilities of Their Use in the Educational Process'.
During the event, the participants discussed the concept of artificial intelligence, the history of AI development, examples of AI use in education, the algorithm of interaction with AI, modern tools for education and science, limitations and risks of using AI, etc.
On April 30, a meeting of the English Speaking Club (debate and quest on 'Academic Integrity Issues') was held for students of the Educational and Research Institute of Linguistics. The event was coordinated by Nazarii Danyliuk, a representative of the Institute's Student Council, and Yaroslav Serediuk, a student moderator of the English Speaking Club.
The guest of the meeting was Elijah Morgan, Doctor of Economics and Theology, Honorary Professor of the Educational and Research Institute of Information Technology and Business of the NaUOA, who shared with the participants valuable insights into academic integrity and current challenges in this area.
During the event, students took part in an interactive quest and quiz that allowed them to test their knowledge of academic integrity. In addition, they discussed such vital issues as plagiarism, bribery in the educational environment, custom academic assignments, and other manifestations of dishonest behaviour in the academic space.
Also on this day, moderated by the Head of Vasyl Popeliushko Department of Criminal Law Disciplines, Doctor of Philosophy in Law, Associate Professor Mariia Matviichuk, an event called 'Dialogue on the Quality of Legal Education: Reality and Expectations' was held. Students of the I. Malynovskyi Educational and Scientific Institute of Law shared their vision of the development of legal education in Ukraine and Ostroh Academy in particular.
"The dialogue was incredibly productive because every student actively participated in the educational process. The degree-seeking students highly appreciated studying Law at Ostroh Academy, which balances theory and practice, has a direct relationship with legal practice, involves innovative teaching methods, provides opportunities for international cooperation and participation in exchange programmes, and involves the development of soft skills and critical thinking. Of course, the opinions and suggestions voiced during the dialogue will be taken into account when updating educational programmes and organising the educational process,"
In addition, 'The Most Honest Quiz' was held among the Educational and Research Institute of Social and Humanitarian Management students. During the event, students updated their knowledge of the principles of academic integrity, improved their critical thinking skills, tried to find solutions to various conflict situations, etc.
On May 1, an interactive cognitive quiz, "The Quality of Education at the OA", was held for Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations and National Security students. The event aims to inform students about the main aspects of quality assurance and to consolidate their understanding of the principles of academic integrity at the NaUOA based on cases.
On May 2, anti-corruption commissioner Bohdan Mykhalchuk held a seminar on ‘Quality of Education vs. Corruption Risks: Steps to Build a Fair Academic Environment.’
"During the meeting, we learned to identify potential corruption risks in the educational environment together with the students. It was an opportunity to look at the university from the perspective of integrity and engage students in co-creating a transparent and responsible academic culture. The students showed high activity, critical thinking and a desire to influence positive changes, which is the most important thing."
Kateryna Yakunina, Assistant Rector for Strategic Development and Quality of Education, Cand. Sc. (History), Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Management summarised:
"Holding Quality Days at Ostroh Academy is an important part of developing a quality culture at the university. And the variety of proposed activities for participants in the educational process only emphasises the complexity with which a quality culture should be formed in a modern higher education institution."
