In Ostroh Academy exchanged experience in interactive teaching of legal disciplines

On June 8-9, the National University of Ostroh Academy hosted a workshop on the exchange of experience in interactive teaching of legal disciplines. The event was attended by 20 representatives of the teaching staff of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University and I. Malynovskyi Academic and Research Institute of Law of the National University of Ostroh Academy, who open to innovation in teaching. The implementation of the workshop was made possible thanks to the support of the American people, in particular the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) within the framework of the USAID Nove Pravosuddya Program (New Justice Program).

The purpose of the event is the formation of a community of teachers who practice interactive teaching methods for legal disciplines, evolve their professional development and share experiences; assistance in improving the professional capacity of future lawyers through the improvement of legal education in law schools of Ukraine.

According to the co-organizer, Teacher of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law of the I. Malynivskyi Academic and Research Institute of Law of the National University of Ostroh Academy Maria Tsyiashchuk, such an event in Ostroh Academy is the first time for teachers of legal disciplines. In addition to Ukrainian practices and their interpretations, participants were also able to gain knowledge of foreign experience in this area. In particular, Helen (California Law School, Berkeley), lawyer and Fulbright Researcher at the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, described the Interactive Elements of a J.D. Education in the U.S.

According to the Assistant of the Department of Criminal Law of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University, Oleksandr Komarov, Ukrainian education keeps to itself. Therefore, these workshops are important for the experience exchange, where you can learn a lot of useful information about interactive teaching methods.

«In fact, they are very easy to use, but they are for some reasons forgotten» - observes Mr. Komarov.

During the workshop the participants discussed the experience of using interactive teaching methods in law schools as an element of continuous improvement of legal education, determined the best practices of interactive teaching of legal disciplines and the possibilities of their implementation in the educational process.

«This workshop is a practical case for improving the quality of education at our university. Interactive methods discussed during the event can be used by teachers of other faculties, choosing acceptable for the achievement of learning outcomes and the development of competencies, both general and professional.
