Everything you wanted to know about the Eurovision

May 16, 2018

On May 16, students of the Faculty of Political Studies and Information Management organized a protmušis on the topic of Eurovision and peculiarities of its organization and holding.

Protmušis (literally "Mindfight" in Lithuanian) is an intellectual game between two or more teams, the essence of which is in the fast and correct answers to the question, and the team that first answers correctly deprives the opponent of the opportunity to answer the same question. A team that scores more points wins.

The theme of Eurovision is chosen not by chance, because the final of this year's competition took place on May 12 in Lisbon, Portugal. Portugal hosted the competition for the first time. This right was got thanks to the victory of the Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral with the song "Amar Pelos Dois" at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv. Eurovision has been one of the most popular song competitions in Europe between the member states of the European Language Union since 1956.

The organizers of the event were a student board of the faculty, which takes the initiative, and a student volunteer of the scientific section of this student board Taras Tokmyna.

Participation in the protmušis was taken by 3 teams from the Faculty of International Relations, the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Languages and the Faculty of Humanities. The teams consisted mostly of 2-3 people, students had to give answers correctly and quickly to 20 questions on the subject of Eurovision, and the winning team received a sweet prize from the organizers.

“I'm nterested in Eurovision since the competition was won by a representative from Ukraine Jamala. This event is interesting to me because it is organized immediately after the 2018 competition. I have a certain amount of knowledge on this topic, so I decided to check out myself”, shares a participant of the winning team, a student of the Faculty of International Relations Ihor Voziuk.

“Organization of events is a responsible and interesting work at the same time. Students have taken the initiative and helped to find a solution; it was only needed to select the most interesting ones. I'm pleased that this event happened and that students liked it”, told the organizer Taras Tokmyna.

The Final Concert of Eurovision Song Contest 2018 was held on Saturday, May 12, in Lisbon. It was won by a representative of Israel Netta.
