The works of scientists from the NUOA are presented at the Book Arsenal 2018

June 02, 2018

At this year's Book Arsenal, traditionally held in Kyiv, the National University of Ostroh Academy is prominently represented by the works of the scientists. On the second day of the event took place a presentation of the seventh reprinting of the Quran meanings in the Ukrainian language.

The book was made up in the Turkish publishing house with the assistance of the foundation ”Hizmet Vakfi” and Sinan Pasha Madrasa. A few thousand copies were released almost on the eve of the Arsenal, so visitors ware able to get a completely new edition. The book is published in the best traditions of Turkish printing, it has a golden stamping, a solid leather hardcover and a large, readable font.

According to a translator, a director of the Center for Islamic Studies of the Ostroh Academy Mykhailo Yakubovych, such a number of reprints is due to considerable interest in the Ukrainian-language text. At the beginning of his work, the scientist was confronted with a lack of understanding, and criticizing of the need for the Ukrainian version, since Russian-language translations were available at that time. However, the Ukrainian language is a powerful component of national consciousness. Reading of Ukrainian products is fashionable and up-to-date. It is great that nowadays foreign Russian-speaking guests even learn Ukrainian with the help of this translation. Also, in addition to the print edition, an electronic version of the book has appeared, and that allows to popularize Ukrainian text far beyond the borders of Ukraine.

During the presentation, there were different discussions. It was claimed that the Quran is not just the main sacred text of Islam, it is also an important part of world culture. Since Ukraine is multinational, this translation will promote better understanding of each other.

Also, a teaching manual "Islamic Studies" was presented at the event. The authors of the manual are Mykhailo Yakubovych and mufti of the Spiritual Management of Muslims of Ukraine named "Ummah" Said Ismahil. The presented edition is one of the first teaching manual for the same name course, acquainting with Islam and its place in Ukrainian culture. The manual is recommended for publication by the Scientific Council of the Ostroh Academy.

Another work is a scientific monograph "Tatars in Volyn", prepared by an author team of Ostroh researchers Petro Kraliuk, Mykhailo Yakubovych and Vitalii Shchepanskyi. The book deals with the historical, cultural, and social relations of Volyn and the Muslim world. For many people, this issue still remains a blind spot. Although archaeological research conducted in the settlements of Lystvyn (Rivne Oblast, Mylsk (Volyn Oblast) has actualized the issue.

One of the authors of the book, PhD in History Vitalii Shchepanskyi emphasizes that research should be conducted at the level of analysis of verbal history, working in local archives and writing down the stories of the Tartarian generations. The materials collected in the book are interesting for a thorough study of our own history.

The work on the publication has even became a certain personal discovery for the researcher when it was related to working with materials related to the village Fedorivka (former Tudoriv) of Hoshchanskyi district.
