Mykhailo Hrushevskyi’s 150th Anniversary Conference

This year is full of jubilees. One of them is the 150th anniversary of birth of Mykhailo Serhiiovych Hrushevskyi, a prominent Ukrainian historian, politician and public figure. First researches on his work were carried out during his lifetime. However, it has been finally systematized thanks to the Ukrainian Historical Association, which has been studying and publishing works by Hrushevskyi in the USA since 1966.

On 17 September, the International Scientific Conference took place at the National University of Ostroh Academy. The scholars from the USA, Croatia, Russia, Belarus and Poland along with the leading Ukrainian researchers of Hrushevskyi’s works took part in the conference, which was organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National University of Ostroh Academy and the Ukrainian Historical Association (the USA).

The Rector of Ostroh Academy Ihor Pasichnyk opened the conference. The President of the Ukrainian Historical Association Liubomyr R. Vynar and the dean of Faculty of International Relations of Ostroh Academy Alla Atamanenko delivered their salutary speeches.

At the plenary session, famous researchers of Hrushevskyi’s works Ihor Hyrych, Vitalii Telvak, Oksana Yurkova, Ihor Verba and others gave their lectures. Other interesting lectures and discussions took place at the oral session.

The lectures were dedicated to Mykhailo Hrushevskyi’s personality, analysis of his contribution to Ukrainian historical science, source and literature studies and the statehood of Ukraine. The participants in the conference shared their opinions regarding the current state of studies of Hrushevskyi’s works and the prospects of publishing projects: 50-volume edition of works by M. Hrushevskyi, continuation of the Ukrainian Historical Association series The Epistolary Sources of Studies of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi’s Works, which includes unique correspondence between famous scholars, public figures, political leaders, and M. Hrushevskyi, the Hrushevskiana UHA series. Moreover, the presentation of the 9th volume of the series of books about this prominent historical figure The Lviv School of Mykhailo Hrushevskyi by Vitalii Telvak and Vasyl Pedych took place at the conference.

The results of the conference will be published in the collection of brief outlines and as articles in Ukrainskyi Istoryk (The Ukrainain Historian) journal of the Ukrainian Historical Association, the editorial board of which works at the National University of Ostroh Academy.
