Days of Shevchenko in Ostroh Academy

It has already become a tradition to celebrate Days of Shevchenko at the National University of Ostroh Academy. The students and lecturers spent a week honouring the memory of the Great Kobzar.

On 11 March, 4th and 5th year students of the Academy majoring in Ukrainian Philology and lecturers of the Department of the Ukrainian Language and Literature took part in the solemn procession to the monument of Taras Shevchenko. There, Yanina Sidliarenko, a 4th year student majoring in the Ukrainian Language and Literature, told about a life episode of young Taras, and her group mate, Iryna Tserkevych, recited his poetry. In his solemn speech, Professor Khomiak, Head of the Department of the Ukrainian Language and Literature, called upon to remember and honour the memory of the great artist and patriot. Flowers were laid and a candle was lit at the monument of Taras Shevchenko as tokens of respect.

The art and literary evening A Heart That Once With Worth Was Warmed Will Warm Forever Keep... dedicated to the birthday celebrations of Taras Shevchenko took place on 12 March in the Culture and Arts Centre of Ostroh Academy.

Additionally, a literary quiz about the life and creative work of the poet was held. The Underground Art Gallery opened an art exhibition under the title Shevchenko the Painter: Spiritual Aspect In His Artistic Legacy.

In addition, Ostroh Academy students recited the Great Kobzar’s poetry via the Student Radio.
