The “Drum Power Ukraine 2.0” Summer School has been held!

August 17, 2026

The “Drum Power Ukraine 2.0” Summer School took place at the National University of Ostroh Academy from 10 to 14 August, with financial support from the Andreas Tobias Kind Foundation (Germany).

The Summer School programme combined short theoretical sessions, group work, daily reflection, practical sessions on playing the djembe and metallophones, body-oriented exercises, and musical role-play activities. Participants learnt tools for emotional self-regulation, stress reduction, and the safe expression of complex emotions, which they can now use in their professional and community work. Participants undertook an intensive 40-hour training course in a full-immersion format using the Drum Power method, led by a team of certified music therapists and trainers.

“For us, this summer school is, above all, about people. About those who support others every day whilst themselves needing to recharge. About professionals seeking new tools to help others, and about a community learning to be more attuned to its own emotions. At a time when Ukrainian society is facing extremely difficult challenges, it is important not only to talk about resilience but also to create the conditions for its restoration. “Drum Power Ukraine 2.0” brings together education, science and genuine human support, giving participants an experience they can pass on – to their students, colleagues, families and communities”,

said Olena Shershnova PhD in Public Administration, Associate Professor and Rector’s Assistant for Project Activities.

“The Ostroh Academy has always been a place where knowledge takes on special meaning when it begins to serve people. Today, this service is reflected in our ability to listen to the needs of society, support those who are struggling, and help them regain their inner strength. The ‘Drum Power Ukraine 2.0’ summer school reminds us that even in the darkest of times, music and community can restore a person’s self-belief and sense of support. It is extremely valuable for our university to be a place where such initiatives are born, for caring for people is also an investment in a strong, humane and sustainable Ukraine",

concluded Dmytro Shevchuk, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor and Vice-Rector for Research and Teaching.
