International research and practical conference dedicated to the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyivan Rus

On 11 September, an international research and practical conference dedicated to the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyivan Rus was held at the National University of Ostroh Academy.
Vasyl Zhukovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Professor and Senior Priest at the Student and teachers church greeted the participants of the conference. According to him, Christianization of Kyivan Rus is an important event both for the country and for every single person. That is why Ostroh Academy could not keep aside from discussing such a vital issue as the occurrence and expansion of Christianity in Ukraine.
It is worth mentioning that during the conference Professor Kraliuk, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Studies of the National University of Ostroh Academy, Dr.Sc. in Philosophy, made a presentation of his monograph titled Adoption and Perception of Christianity In Rus-Ukraine written long before the 1025th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyivan Rus. It is about the expansion of Christianity in Ukraine from the ancient times till Prince Volodymyr’s Christianization of Kyivan Rus. His «choice of religion» is deliberated separately. It also says about the perception of Christianity in the works of ancient Rus’s scribes. Everybody can find the fragments of the book on the website of Ostroh Academy library as well as in The Day newspaper.
Vasyl Zhukovsky, Professor, Dr.Sc. (Pedagogics), Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the National University of Ostroh Academy, delivered a report titled The Moral Ideal of Christianity. Olexandr Kalabskyi, Master of Religious Studies, Postgraduate and Lecturer at the Department of Religious Studies of Ostroh Academy, pastor of one of Netishyn churches, told about baptism and its role in the Ukrainian mentality. Dmytro Tsolin, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Religious Studies, Cand.Sc. (Philology), told in his report about St. Aphraates’ and St. Ephraim’s Christian Aramaic Literature of the 1-4th centuries.
The conference was concluded with the exhibition dedicated to the day of Christianization of Kyivan Rus. First-year students of the Faculty of Humanities majoring in cultural studies arranged an excursion and told the guests about the interesting events in the lives of known historical figures involved in the founding of Ostroh Academy and the Christianization of Kyivan Rus.
