The National University of Ostroh Academy (NUOA) continues to actively integrate into the European research and educational landscape by sharing its own best practices and implementing modern digital solutions. An international Ukrainian-German webinar was recently held, dedicated to the digital transformation of university libraries and the development of an open scientific and educational environment.
The keynote speaker at the event was Halyna Tsepyuk, Director of the Academic Mykola Zhulinsky Scientific Library at Ostroh Academy, who presented Ostroh Academy’s comprehensive experience in the field of digitization to her German and Ukrainian colleagues.
Digitization as a Strategic Priority: Digitizing Valuable Resources and New Opportunities for Science and Education
During the presentation, it was emphasized that for Ostroh Academy, digitalization is not merely the implementation of new technologies, but a fundamental rethinking of the entire library and information system.
Key areas and results of the digital transformation of the NaUOA Scientific Library:
- Preservation and accessibility of cultural and historical heritage: Specialists at Ostroh Academy History Museum are actively digitizing unique collections, valuable and rare publications, as well as collections of early printed books. Converting these documents into digital format not only ensures their reliable preservation for future generations but also provides researchers worldwide with unimpeded access to the unique heritage of Ostroh Academy.
- Development of the institutional repository and scholarly resources: Thanks to the creation and systematic expansion of the electronic archive (repository), scholarly works, dissertations, teaching materials, and monographs by NUOA scholars and students are becoming as visible as possible on the international stage, which helps increase citation indices and foster integration into the global scholarly discourse.
- Process Automation and Modern Services: The implementation of the latest data analysis and organization tools has made it possible to automate internal library processes, create user-friendly online catalogues, and ensure a fast and convenient search for the necessary resources.
- Accessibility and User-Centricity: Thanks to digital services and remote communication tools, every student, faculty member, and independent researcher has round-the-clock access to the necessary educational and scholarly resources from anywhere in the world.
New Horizons for Cooperation with Germany
The event served as an effective platform for exchanging practical experience and discussing global digital trends. German representatives highly praised the Scientific Library of NAU’s level of technological readiness, openness, and innovative approaches to information resource management.
Following a fruitful discussion, our German colleagues proposed initiating systematic cooperation with NUOA, which will open new opportunities for implementing joint international projects, conducting collaborative research, and exchanging expertise in the fields of digital heritage preservation and the development of digital education.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the University Libraries Section of the Ukrainian Library Association (ULA) and the Association of German University Libraries for organizing and supporting this event, as well as to all webinar participants for their keen interest and constructive dialogue.
The National University of Ostroh Academy continues to move confidently along the path of digital development, strengthening international partnerships to build a modern and accessible scientific and educational environment!
