Ostroh Academy Celebrates Ukrainian Writing and Language Day

October 27, 2025

On October 27, the academic community of the National University of Ostroh Academy traditionally celebrates Ukrainian Writing and Language Day.

The event opened with a presentation of books and the creative work of Petro Kraliuk, Doctor of Science (Philosophy), Full Professor, writer, and publicist.

"Ostroh Academy is home to brilliant and unique individuals who not only use language as a spoken medium but, above all, create through writing. One of them is Petro Kraliuk, who has served our University for more than 22 years. Ostroh Academy is a unique environment where a person's talents are revealed. I believe that it is precisely here that Petro Kraliuk's multifaceted abilities have found their fullest expression, as within the walls of Ostroh Academy, he has written 25 historical and popular-science novels,"

said Ihor Pasichnyk, President of Ostroh Academy, Doctor of Science (Psychology) and Full Professor.

After the presentation, the attendees joined in writing the Radio Dictation of National Unity-2025 in a collective effort.

Iryna Rabchuk, a lecturer in the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature and moderator of the event, delivered an opening speech:

"We welcome you to the event dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language – a celebration of our word, culture, and spiritual strength. Language and writing are two wings that raise a nation, and without one of them, we cannot soar. Language inspires and blossoms in songs, is renewed through the spoken word, and binds us together in everyday conversation, while writing bestows upon it immortality in chronicles, poetry, and books — in every line written by Ukrainian hands and hearts. Today, as an academic community, by taking part in the Radio Dictation, we become part of a tradition through which Ukrainians around the world affirm their honour and respect for the state language – Ukrainian. The language of unity, resilience, and the dignity of a great nation."

Ihor Pasichnyk, President of Ostroh Academy, also addressed the audience with a welcoming speech:

"Many poems and songs have been dedicated to the Ukrainian language. Our native language is unique, and we should be proud of it. On behalf of the entire faculty of Ostroh Academy, I wish you, dear students, to realise your noble mission – to become Ukrainian intellectuals, which first and foremost means being bearers of the Ukrainian language."

Head of the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature of the NaUOA, Cand. Sc. (Philology), Associate Professor Vitalii Maksymchuk noted:

"I sincerely congratulate you on Ukrainian Writing and Language Day – the celebration of the Ukrainian Radio Dictation, which for the twenty-sixth time has united Ukrainians around the world. May an inextinguishable spark of Ukrainian identity burn in each of your hearts, for only through strong language resilience, by freeing ourselves from a slave mentality and an inferiority complex, and by knowing our own history, will we be able to defeat the moscow occupiers forever, for no one can stop an idea whose time has come. No one can stop the time of the Ukrainian sun, which is already rising and bringing our victory closer."

Later, all interested students had a unique opportunity to meet with Petro Kraliuk in the "Prostir SLOVA" area, discuss the books he presented, and purchase them with personal inscriptions and autographs. The meeting helped attendees realise, once again, that history is not only about the past but also a key to our present and future.

“Today, we presented the creative legacy of Petro Kraliuk, who is an intellectual hero of our time. At the Scientific Library of Ostroh Academy, we are building a collection of all the author’s works. We encourage you to be avid readers and to discover the creative work of Petro Mykhailovych,”

summed up Halyna Tsepiuk, Director of the Scientific Library.
