Every year in October, the National University of Ostroh Academy celebrates University Day. This year, the first higher education institution in Eastern Europe marks 449 years since its founding and 31 years since its revival.
Traditionally, the day began with a thanksgiving service at the Academic Church of St. Fedir Ostrozkyi.
The University Day celebrations continued in the academic park with a fair featuring an auction, an inter-institute competition called 'Super Bee,' and a singing performance. Audience members also had the opportunity to watch a football match between students and faculty and cheer for their favourite team."
The Rector of Ostroh Academy, Doctor of Science (Psychology), Full Professor Eduard Balashov, delivered a welcoming speech:
"You are unique because you study at the oldest higher education institution. We are glad that the modern Ostroh Academy is a logical continuation of the medieval academy, whose primary mission was to educate the elite, the intelligentsia, and Ukrainian leaders. We live in a rather challenging time, but it offers you many opportunities to help create the Ukraine we all dream of. After completing your studies at the university, you will become successors of the ideas of Ostroh Academy and members of the Ostroh Academy Brotherhood. I am confident that Ostroh Academy will be proud of you and your achievements."
During the fair, the university's creative students showcased their artistic works; sold treats and souvenirs bearing university symbols, which could be purchased with the traditional academic currency, 'bees'; and demonstrated their talents through dance and solo performances. All events in the programme were charitable.
“The funds have already been allocated to support our Armed Forces, specifically to an alumnus of Ostroh Academy who is currently on the front line. Some of the funds were allocated for the purchase of parish and wax for trench candles, as well as for fundraising initiatives of the Institute of Law and the Institute of Social and Humanitarian Management,”
The students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Information Technologies and Business won the inter-institute competition “Super Bee.”
"This year, we had the honour of representing our institute as 'bees. We ran, joked, and took photos with the students. We are delighted to have been received so warmly. We even had the opportunity to take photos with the Rector of Ostroh Academy and with the director of our institute. It was a great pleasure to learn that we took first place and became the best 'bees.' We thank everyone who supported us: the cultural and arts department, the student dean's office, the student council, and all the students. It was a day we will remember for a long time."
We thank everyone who participated in the University Day celebrations and supported the Student Brotherhood's initiatives. Together, we are doing a good and essential deed—supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine in bringing our victory closer!
