For further inquiries, please e-mail to: mykhaylo.yakubovych@oa.edu.uaBrief history of
Center for Islamic Studies of the Ostroh Academy National University was established by September, 2015. The main aim of the Center is the research on the Islamic heritage of the Western Ukraine, especially in relation to the local Tatar Muslim communities (including the community of Ostroh, existed for more than 500 years). One of the other priority fields of study is the Islamic intellectual tradition in the Ukrainian lands under the Crimean Khanate, including the research on the respective Arabic and Ottoman manuscripts. The first step which is currently in action for the Center development is the creation of the special resource room in order to gather the available material on the history of Islam in Ukraine. The Center already started to set close research ties with the most advanced Islamic Studies institutions from Ukraine and abroad.
Areas of activity
Among the activities of the Center, one of the most important projects is the translation, edition and publishing of the Islamic primary sources into the Ukrainian language, including both the sacred texts as well as the Post-Classical and Modern writings.
