General information about the Department

The Department was established on June 1, 2006 with the purpose of training specialists in the Country Studies specialty of International Relations subject area. Now, the Department of Regional Studies trains professionals in the specialty 291 International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies, educational and professional programs “International Regional Studies” and “Euro-Atlantic Studies and Security.”

The Department is a powerful educational and scientific staff of highly qualified specialists that can provide the necessary quality of education. The staff of the Department are the authors of monographs on the topical problems of international relations and country studies, manuals and textbooks on principal subjects in the field of international relations which are recommended for students of higher education institutions by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Ten PhD theses were defended and winners of the second stage of the Student Olympiad in International Relations were prepared under the supervision of teaching staff of the Department.

The staff of the Department work on the scientific topic “Integration and incorporation processes in 16th-21th century Europe» (state registration number 0123U104286).

Appropriate material and technical base, modern information support, highly qualified academic staff, extensive network of ties with public authorities at various levels, scientific institutions and centers, tour operators and travel agencies (which are bases of practical training) allow for quality training of specialists at two levels of higher education:

  • bachelors – in the specialty 291 International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies, educational and professional program “International Regional Studies”;
  • masters – in the specialty 291 International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies, educational and professional program “Country Studies” and «Euro-Atlantic Studies and Security.”

Tourist and study tours are organized for students of the specialty both in Ukraine (to international conferences, exhibitions, fairs, festivals, etc.) and abroad (to Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, etc.). Students have the opportunity to participate in the international exchange programs, international schools, etc.

The graduates of the specialty are political scientists and international relations specialists who are well-versed in countries and regions of the world (their geography, history, specific features of economic, political, cultural, ethnonational, spiritual development, demographic situation, migration processes, environmental issues, interconfessional relations, etc.), have knowledge of relevant foreign languages and are able to analyze the influence of regional factors on foreign policy of states and international relations.

The Department organizes:

  • the Laboratory for the Study of International Relations in Central and Eastern Europe of 10th – 21st Centuries.
