General Information
The Department of Business Communication was established on April 8, 2005 by the decision of the academic Council of the National University of Ostroh Academy. The Department of Business Communication is an interfaculty Department, professors of which teach the courses General English - 1 for the 1st and 2nd year students, English for Professional Use for the 3rd and 4th year students of bachelor's and master's programs at the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Political Studies and Information Management on full-time and part-time forms of education.The Department of Business Communication
Scientific and educational-methodical work of the Department of Business Communication of the NauOA is subordinated to the theme of scientific work - ’The Peculiarities of Business English for Non-language Specialties of Higher Educational Establishments’ for the state registration number 0116U005532.
Educational work
The work of the Department of Business Communication of the NauOA is aimed at teaching English as a language of professional communication. Therefore, all teachers of the Department use specialized literature according to the courses provided by the Department for the preparation and conduct of practical training. The course Foreign Language (for professional use) for bachelors and masters is mandatory for all specialties. All educational and working programs of the Department of Business Communication are compiled in accordance with the scientific theme of the Department. Within the framework of the educational complexes, practical classes in English, where students have the opportunity to compare and analyze the development of civil society in English-speaking countries, are held to get acquainted with the political and economic systems of different countries of the world, to study historical heritage, culture of the peoples of the world.
Teachers use various forms of work, including: debates, reading of specialized literature followed by a discussion, debate in English-speaking club "Chatter Box," a documentary and film watching on related subjects.
Scientific work
The theme of the scientific work of the Department of Business Communication is 'The Peculiarities of Business English for Non-language Specialties of Higher Educational Establishments ' allows to improve the level of English proficiency of students of all qualification levels of the National University of Ostroh Academy. The theme is aimed to achieve high professional skills in all faculties. As part of the research topic at the Department of Business Communication there are:
1) educational-methodological seminar "New Trends in TESL" and scientific presentations, which help to improve the professional level of teachers are held by the teachers who are native speakers;
2) scientific club 'Semantics of language and text' (coordinator Kraichynska G. V., Ph.D);
3) seminar "Gender educational policy in educational institutions of Europe" (coordinator Lushpay L. I.).
Also, annual all-Ukrainian scientific and practical Internet conference ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES is being held at the university. According to the results of the conference, an electronic collection of materials is formed, which is placed on the scientific blog of NauOA after the conference.
Resources
The Department works with the complexes of textbooks published by Longman, Cambridge and Oxford University Press. Educational and methodological support of the disciplines of the Department meets the highest modern requirements and includes the main educational and methodical complexes (International Express, Intelligent Business, Landmark, Natural English, New Cambridge Advanced, Just English, International Legal English, Introduction to International Legal English, Across Cultures, Market Leader, Face to Face, Cutting Edge, Upstream, English for Business Man, Academic Encounters, Outcomes, Keynote, Close-up) Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Advanced, which allows students to work with different levels of English. In addition to the above-mentioned complexes for the development and improvement of knowledge of lexical, phonological and grammatical skills of students during classes teachers actively use translated, explanatory dictionaries, encyclopedic publications, reference books, English grammar publications Cambridge and Oxford, additional literature for home reading, use a variety of English-language feature articles from modern periodicals (National Geographic, News Week, the Guardian, Foreign Affairs, the Economist, the Times, the Sun, the US News and World Report, History Today, Social News, Pearson Education Limited, etc.).
Additionally, for enrichment of vocabulary, textbooks English Vocabulary in Use and Business English Vocabulary in Use are used. For the development of reading and writing skills are used books Mosaic (Reading Skills / Writing Skills), Science Year, etc., available in the resource center of the University. Teachers of the Department along with traditional actively use innovative and interactive learning technologies: video, audio, DVD and CD players, video presenter, tape recorders, computers, Internet sites, which have three permanently operating laboratories of the English language (audience № 6, 7, 74). For home reading at the 1 and 4th year students, adapted and original texts of fiction works with CD and DVD recordings are used. Teachers of the Department are actively working in the Moodle system, which contains developed tests and Power Point presentations for all major courses.

- From the USA: Phillip Lesley de Wulf and Mark Vitvitsky were giving lectures on such topics as “Politology” and “The English language” for the students of the 3d and 4 th courses on the following faculties: “Cultural Studies” and “Documentation and information”;
- From Canada: Morgan Bemford organized English speaking club “Chatter Box”; the participants of international exchange program Canada-World-Youth Luck Ludwigson, Briana Montor, Cody Longlits, Leicy Armstrong, Paul Broadway.
- From Australia: Svitlana Novotarska.
