The National University of Ostroh Academy is the successor of Ostroh Slavic, Greek and Latin Academy, the first higher educational establishment of the Eastern Slavs.

General Information about the Department

The Department of Psychology and Pedagogics was established in 1999 to improve professional skills of students of other specialties and to train professional psychologists.

Since 2005 the department provides training in two educational degrees: Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree of Psychology. Training is carried out on full-time and part-time basis.

In 2015 the Institute of Applied Psychology and Psychotherapy started its activity. Its main purpose is to teach and to train practical psychologists that can assist in solving all kinds of psychological problems, and to provide scientific research studies of the essential aspects of psychological and psychotherapeutic care of the individual. The Director of the Institute is Maria A. Shuhai, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Assistant Professor of Psychology and Pedagogics.

The Institute includes Research Laboratory of Cognitive Psychology, Practical Laboratory “Psychosocial Support and Rehabilitation of Victims of War Affairs” and “Workshop of the Practical Psychologist”.

Students are offered the following certificate programs:

1) “Practical Psychology”

2) “Organizational Psychology”

3) “The Art of Self-Presentation”

The participants of these educational programs learn such modern methods of psychotherapy as Psychodrama, Gestalt Therapy, Art Therapy, Child Therapy, Psychosomatics, Body-Oriented Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, and Symbol-Drama.

The Department is working on the development of the scientific topic “Theoretical and Experimental Study of Personality of Ukrainian Intelligent” (state registration number: 0110U02405), and on the following research projects:

1) Interference as a phenomenon of memory and metamemory (state registration number: 0114U000574), 2014 – 2015;

2) Research of psychological, environmental and socio-demographic risk and phobias with substantiation of health effects on youth (state registration number: 0113U000501), 2013 – 2016.

The teachers staff of the department effortfully helps to conduct international and national scientific and practical conferences “Recent Advances in Cognitive Psychology”, regular methodological seminars where teachers, Ph.D. students and students discuss actual problems of psychological researches.

There is periodically issued specialized collection of scientific papers “Scientific Notes of the National University of Ostroh Academy. Psychology and Pedagogics Series” (Resolution of the Presidium of NAS of Ukraine 10.02.2010., № 1-05 / 1).

There is the post-graduate specialty 19.00.07 – Educational and Age Psychology with the specialized academic council, as well as the post-graduate specialty 13.00.01 – General Pedagogics, History of Pedagogics.

The Department of Psychology and Pedagogics cooperates with Lesia Ukrainka East-European National University, Rivne State Humanitarian University, V. Stefanyk Prykarpatskyi National University, Kyiv Gestalt University, Warsaw University of Science SGGW, Warsaw University, Stockholm University (Sweden), John Paul II Lublin Catholic University.

There are the following research groups:

2) Correction and development work with children with special needs using clay (directors – O.V. Kvashuk, As.Prof., A.Yu. Hilman);

3) Gift: From Theory to Practice (director –I.O.Boiakivska);

4) Psychodiagnostic tools development (director – U.I. Nikitchuk);

5) Research group: SPSS: Computer data analysis in psychological research (director – T.A. Dovhaliuk).
