Guests from Poland at Ostroh Academy

It is not the first time honoured guests from Poland came to the National University of Ostroh Academy. This time they took part in the conference Legal and Social Aspects of Cooperation between EU and Eastern Partnership Countries. The Processes of State Democratisation and the Problem of Corruption«.
The conference has been organised by:
- Polish Association for European Studies
- Institute of European Studies of the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin
- Faculty of Administration and National Security of Jakub of Paradyż Academy of Gorzów Wielkopolski
- Faculty of Political Studies and Information Management of the National University of Ostroh Academy
- Konrad Adenauer Foundation
The conference was started with the introductory speech of the Rector of the National University of Ostroh Academy Dr. Ihor Pasichnyk:
«Every rector’s task is to tell something about their university, so I will not break the practice this time. Our university is a vivid prof of history being written by individuals, not by the majorities. Not only Ostroh Academy, but also strong Duchy of Ostroh existed as long as Prince Kostiantyn of Ostroh was alive. When the Prince passed away, the decline of the Academy and Ostroh started. However, due to God’s blessing Ostroh Academy prospers again, having weathered 340-year pause. This year the number of secondary school graduates has decreased, but 25 per cent more first-year students have joined our Academy family. Now we can say without a doubt that Ostroh Academy is a brand of modern high-quality education in Ukraine».
During the conference it was said that corruption is not the key problem of Ukrainian society.
Dr. Pasichnyk is convinced that the corruption problem has been imposed on us for a long time and that all the world countries face this problem as well. One can only differentiate countries with low, medium and high level of corruption. Ukraine is for sure with the high one, but the root of all our problems does not lie here. Two main calamities of Ukraine are war and brain drain especially among young people.
Four plenary sessions were taking place simultaneously each of them having an issue to discuss:
- Ethics in Politics.
- The Processes of State Democratisation and the Problem of Corruption.
- Legal and Social Aspects of Cooperation between EU and Eastern Partnership Countries.
- Social and Economic Consequences of Relations between EU and Ukraine.
Having discussed the urgent questions, politic scientists made a conclusion that Ukraine has to do a lot improving standard of living, modernising social spheres of national identity in order to reach the European level and have the possibility to become a real European country in the nearest future.
