Ostroh Academy Got into the Ukrainian Book of Records for the 5th Time

This year the 440th anniversary of foundation of the first institution of higher education of Ukraine and East Europe, the National University of Ostroh Academy was celebrated. It is to be recalled that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the resolution regarding the celebration of this jubilee at state level.

Throughout the year, various events dedicated to the 440th birthday of the university have taken place at Ostroh Academy. The most significant ones are Ostroh-Renaissance festival of cultural studies, the festive presentation of Ostroh Academy in the National Kyiv-Pechersk Cave Monastery Historical and Cultural Reserve, the unveiling of the newly built Science Laboratory Building of the University along with the first monument to the Ostroh Bible featuring the President of Ukraine Petro Porosheko.

A theatralized flash mob was organized and the 5th Record of Ukraine was made on the Academy’s birthday.

The residents of Ostroh of 16th — 17th centuries and the founders of Ostroh Academy were the key figures of the flash mob. The event started with recreating of image of the Renaissance Ostroh. After that the students wearing academic gowns were performing the dance moves, standing in the shape of a heart, «OA» abbreviation and a number 440. The Renaissance music and ringing of bells accompanied the event to recreate the historical atmosphere.

For the record, Ostroh Academy is the only Ukrainian university to set the Guinness World Record.

«Our students and faculty resemble hard-working bees, and our university looks like a hive where we all work towards a common goal together. Honey is unique foodstuff that cannot be produced without hard work. For this reason honey sampling was a symbolic attribute of record setting»,

Altogether 1560 baskets of honey (24,6kg) were prepared for the sampling. The record was verified by a representative of the Ukrainian Book of Records national project Oleksandr Shusteruk.

Today’s event is an integral part of celebration of anniversary of our university. Students, professors, deans and Vice-Rectors gathered at the stadium to demonstrate enduring historical, cultural and spiritual traditions of Ukrainian education to all Ukrainian community, to draw their attention to educational, historical and cultural heritage of Ostroh Academy of the 16th — 17th centuries»,
